HOLY SHIT IT IS DONE AND ON TIME

Update: It may take a few days, but I will be converting this thing into a .pdf file, and possibly a .cbr as well. Included in those files will be updated, fixed and generally better pages, so keep an eye out!

Update 2: You can now download the whole book here.

Hey, now you can JUMP TO THE NEWEST PAGES!

To make things easier, I’ll be posting pages here as I can. I’ll put up a little update notice [updates are posted on twitter. Follow me @ mchenrykeith], but this is the place to see the actual images. Take that. I have only 15 14 days left to move my shit up a goddamn mountain. I’m 5 1/2 6 1/3 pages behind schedule, but that’s okay. This morning, I was 10 1/2 7 1/2 pages behind. My thinky bits are leaking out of my headbones, and I think I might have a concussion. Update: Yeah! My headmeats are feeling better! Still leaky, but better!

I STILL HAVE 11 PAGES TO CREATE BY MIDNIGHT NOVEMBER 30.

I am currently I DON’T EVEN KNOW ANYMORE pages behind goal.

Update: Due to people complimenting my drawing, I have to remind folks that I am not drawing these images. They are, with a few exceptions, public domain and creative commons photos that I am manipulating with GIMP and Inkscape on my ancient iBook G4. Flikr user solarnu has graciously allowed me to use some copyrighted images for Warren. So check his stuff out, it’s really good.

The cover. The image here is the first ever photo of Terra from Luna.

Page 4. I had a lot of fun arranging this page. Rockets are just cool.

Page 5. The first time we see Warren’s face. Panel 5 makes me smile. I’m going to set it as my desktop, I think.

Page 6. Which really should have been called “The Page That Kicked My Ass All Fucking Day.” Panel 3 took longer than any two other pages combined.

Page 7. Getting the face onto the body in panel 1 took a long time. Not as long as panel 5, of which I am super proud of.

Page 8. I like cityscapes. Can you tell? Also, the first appearance of the enigmatic (and pissed off) Pam.

Page 9. Spoofing a Kickstarter page is hard. Most of the details were wiped out modding the image. Oh, well.

Page 10. Woo hoo! Double digits! Ever done something while you were drunk and it turned out to be awesome and terrifying? Warren did. Update: I noticed a mistake in panel 4. Rob’s dialogue should read “my NAME is on this!” Fix will come tomorrow. Should be fixed now.

Page 11. This is the first time Warren seems to have any doubts. It adds depth, I hope. I also really love the image of Rob. It was surprisingly easy to do. Warren, of course, kicked my ass. Update: I reworked Rob’s face to be more angry and less…enamored.

Page 12. Recycled earlier images. Sad, but necessary. I am not an artist, I am a writer. This art shit is kicking my ass. The diagram is in German, but many early rocket scientists were German, so that’s okay.

Page 13. More boring explanation. And a Frisky Dingo reference. And Rob is finally on board. I personally think that the favor economy is wonderful, and more people should use it. I may rework the dialogue in the last panel to flow more easily on the eye later, but my laundry is just about done.

Page 14. Hella easy to lay out. Intentionally misspelling things was much harder. Oh, Pam, sometimes you have to take charge…

Page 15. Sorry for the late, late posting. This was done a few days ago, but technology has been hating me. I hope the page mirroring works.

This is looking really good! You did in fact find the perfect face for your story. And the art style is growing on me. Bravo!

  2. Ken Bastard says:

    This look effin great!

  3. Patrick says:

I like where this is headed. I also like the don’t fuck with Warren Ellis poster. :)

By the way, what software are you using to do this?

    • Deep One says:

GIMP for the fundamental image editing, Inkscape for layout, talk bubbles, page numbers and borders. Google advanced image search to find public domain and creative commons images.

That reminds me, I need to update the copyright notice.

  4. ken bastard says:

This looks fucking awesome. Can’t wait to read this in it’s entirety, like the others in our little challenge. Good Luck! kb

  5. Evilbob says:

Ah, now I see what’s going on with Warren’s face. It’s the “I am still a little drunk but really hungover and why the hell did you turn the lights on?” face.

  6. Joe says:

This is so awesome! Let me know when the entire pdf is ready, I’ll wait to read it in an uninterrupted flow. I tried nanographicmo and only got 18 pages done. So I have MUCH respect for you (BTW, I’m not giving up, just giving myself some more time to finish). Cheers!

  7. Deep One says:

@Joe The best way to be in the loop is to follow me on twitter (@mchenrykeith). Keep working and let everyone know when you finish!
